Monday the 1st of April 2019

The weekend was long, and I am incredibly tired. Chris gave us the routine rundown of how well we did at our gig last Tuesday, and sprung the wild card of us sticking as a band next term which I am looking forward too.

We have also been told to stick too Prince tracks, this time round we can look at his greatest hits and look away from ‘Purple Rain’ as a whole which is exciting. When we got into rehearsal we threw all of our song ideas into a pool and then chose to do the following three.

First up would be “Kiss”, it is a very funky song with some neat guitar work on the for front with a strong rhythm section backing up with drums and bass.

Secondly would have to be Prince’s iconic “1999”, there are many stabbing synth parts and disco beats being laid down on this track. Instrumentally this song is very interesting and on the vocal end of things it makes you think about its lyrics and the impact it had/still is on society.

Finally, it would have to be the emotionally driven “Little Red Corvette”, musically the song is fairly simple as it consists of 3 chords and some improvisation alongside that.

This evening I’ll be looking at this song in depth after parents evening which will be a big boring session.

Task 1: SMART Targets and Practice Routine (Blog & Practice Routine)

My Daily Practice Routine has been designed to help me improve the following.

My use of dynamics whilst playing (which links back to my S.M.A.R.T targets) this means when to play softly or loudly during specific pieces.

It also helps to expand my plethora of techniques and genres I am able to play within. It also reassures me when it comes to achieving my Grade 6 Electric Guitar LCM grade so that I am able to progress further and take Grade 8 within my second year at college.

Not only is it specific to my Grade 6 specs it can be changed easily so I can adapt to new things. I have also left the choice of CD I play to open, so I go and choose what ever is lying round the house or in my dads car!

I’ll be updating my progress every two days so keep your eyes peeled for those diaries, I’ll also link them below when a weeks work has taken place!
