Today we started off with Aural Perception with Chris, as per usual I will make a separate post on the songs we went over during the course of the weekend.
This morning our first rehearsal went well, all of our songs are slowly getting tighter and musically you can hear our progression with each session that goes by. It is our second rehearsal this term and all of our parts are placing together nicely, but the only song that concerns me is “Take Me With U”, when we go through it we get stuck very easily and the arrangement feels incredibly sparse with just a guitar and bass. We agreed upon looking back at it during our rehearsal at the very end of the day because Chris is leaving early to go to another college which is outrageous so we have to have boring tutor early…
In our lesson with Jason, I let Jason take a look at all of my notes that I have compiled for the past two weeks. At the moment, it is a big fat mess and I need to go into a lot more detail with each point that I’ve jotted down. ‘Purple Rain’ is a very complex album from the get go and getting enough information stocked up to put together a essay is a tedious task.
Chris went on about racial profanities for a good half an hour, I respect his opinion in all but I would rather we had gotten through the bulletin as quick as possible so we could go on to rehearse and go home, so I can take a big nap. The powerpoint was meant to be about writing a CV but Chris scrapped that and continued to go on about some crazy jive and it was then when I spaced out until the end of the session.
Our final rehearsal of the day was very fast paced in comparison to when we’d usually have it after lunch. Because Lewis wasn’t in we had Jason playing for us instead which was interesting to partake within, instead he jumped on keys and filled in that part of our arrangements. Most of Prince’s songs involved two key parts so having Jason fill one of them makes our lonesome arrangements sound whole.
We went through “Let’s Go Crazy” and “Take Me With U”, the keys added more of a kick to the tracks, Jason said he will take a look at our set and hopefully Chris will let him perform with us.
